Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department has received a significant boost for its proposed seaplane project after the Centre allocated ₹200 crore under the UDAN Scheme.
The funding will support the launch of seaplane operations across 10 locations in Andhra Pradesh, with each site receiving ₹20 crore for the development of key infrastructure, including water aerodromes, floating jetties, and associated facilities. The Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation will oversee project execution and infrastructure development at the identified destinations to facilitate seamless seaplane connectivity and enhance regional tourism.
The initiative gained momentum after the Chief Minister undertook a trial seaplane journey between Vijayawada Berm Park and Srisailam last year. Following the successful demonstration, officials proposed additional seaplane routes covering destinations such as Tirupati, Suryalanka, Gandikota, Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, Araku, Lambasingi, and Polavaram. Necessary approvals are currently being sought from the Civil Aviation Ministry, the Airports Authority of India, Coastal Regulation Zone authorities, and environmental agencies.
State officials said private operators will be invited to operate the services after all approvals are secured, with at least two organisations already showing interest in participating. The proposed seaplane network is expected to strengthen tourism circuits, improve accessibility to remote destinations, and generate employment opportunities across Andhra Pradesh’s coastal and heritage regions.
